The Bari Bari Initiative

“Bari Bari, saan ka agung unget pari, ta pumukankami iti pabakirda kadakami”

The Bari Bari Initiative houses projects that centralize the power of storytelling— supporting the reclamation of our histories, traditions, and theories to uplift and sustain non-carceral approaches to healing and care work. BBI prioritizes the preservation of our relationships with one another, the land, and our ancestors and posits these relationships as essential to healing.

The BBI is open for new project inquiries, ideas, and opportunities. If you are interested in learning more about this project or funding the initiative, please contact us.

The Paka(sarita)an of BBI

The recitation of the Bari Bari was passed down from the elders in my family from Cabugbugan. Cabugbugan is a barangay (village) in Tagudin of Ilocos Sur which is in the northern region of Luzon (an island of the Philippines). The Bari Bari is an ancestral healing and protection practice. I am a first-generation American born on my mothers side, and am a proud Filipina.
